What can you expect from the weather at Litton Mill?

Generally we are more sheltered than surrounding areas. Year round, for example, the temperature is about 2 - 3 degrees warmer than Buxton. This is probably because we are several hundred feet lower and of course, protected by the Monsal Valley. Often, when it's raining in Buxton, it's dry in Litton Mill. And sunny too.

If you're looking for sunshine, the best months are May - September. Mid to the end of May is usually a bit of a heatwave. July and August is as you would expect, and October can be really nice with the leaves on the trees turning all shades of amber, gold and brown. Around the end of November we can be caught with light snow, although we are rarely cut off for more than a few hours at a time. The man who runs the Derbyshire Dales road gritting service is blessed with second sight. He also runs Dave's Brew Stop along the Monsal Trail at Cressbrook. And his name is, er, Dave.

Last two weeks in February is the best time for Big Snow. As we're in the lee of Buxton, you can be sure that if anywhere in the UK is gonna to get a blizzard, it's going to be us. This is also a great time to visit - the countryside is wonderful with a deep covering of white.
